Ikarus: Son of the Sun is a 5-day public performance at Tjampuhan River in Ubud-Bali by artist Ra’zsal. This piece entitled “Seeking Pleasure of Stillness” captures the moment of contemplation and reflection in the company of nature – and literally listening to “rock music” – as seen in the video, Ra’z is with an industrial headset plugged into a rock by the river – listening to the pleasure of poetic stillness coming from natural elements - the rocks, water, wind, insects, the beating heart, the sound of breath.
The performance piece is a reminder for us to take a moment to pause and ponder to the pleasure of stillness around us.

“I do think that women could make politics irrelevant. By as a kind of spontaneous
cooperative action, the like of which we have never seen. Which is so far from people’s ideas of state structure and vital social structure that seems to them like total anarchy. And what it really is is very subtle forms of interrellation which do not follow sort of hierarchical pattern which is fundamentally patriarchal. The opposite to patriarchy is not matriarchy but fraternity. And I think it’s women who are going to have to break this spiral of power and find the trick of cooperation.” – dub lyrics of “germaine” by sinead o’connor

“Dance to the point of exhaustion, as if you were a mountaineer climbing a hill,
a sacred mountain. Dance until you are so out of breath that your organism
is forced to obtain oxygen some other way, and it is that, in the end,
that will cause you to lose your identity and your relationship with space and time.
Dance only to the sound of percussion; repeat the process everyday;
know that, at certain moment, your eyes will, quiet naturally, close,
and you will begin to see a light that comes within,
a light that answers your questions and develops your hidden powers.
“During any dance to which we surrender with joy, the brain loses its controlling power,
Performance piece for the “One Billion Rising” talk with Eve Ensler (activist and author of The Vagina Monologues) at Silliman University, Dumaguete-Philippines | 18 December 2012
“One Billion Rising is an appreciation, amplification and an escalation. When One Billion bodies rise and dance on 14 February 2013, we will join in solidarity, purpose and energy and shake the world into a new consciousness. Dancing insists we take up space. It has no set direction but we go there together. It’s dangerous, joyous, sexual, holy, disruptive. It breaks the rules. It can happen anywhere at anytime with anyone and everyone. It’s free. No corporation can control it. It joins us and pushes us to go further. It’s contagious and it spreads quickly. It’s of the body. It’s transcendent.” ~ Eve Ensler

January 23 – A day of “Saturn Return” — zooming into Source; a transition towards transformation.
In this video, the colours that are significant for the Balinese spiritual culture are highlighted – as they represent the island’s gods. A fusion of cultural immersion and creatively-inspired expression.
So, a year later, Ikarus returns to the Source… and performs at the old wooden ubud bridge on January 23, 2013 — a day of remembering the birth into the third dimensional existence…
